Build-A-Lab

Whether you're building a shiny new state-of-the-art laboratory from top to bottom, or simply updating key equipment and instrumentation to modernize an existing facility, API Scientific offers FREE Consulting Services to help your QA or QC Team Build-A-Lab of their dreams.

Because the API Scientific Build-A-Lab Program is an expert collaboration between your staff and ours, working closely together to make that dream a reality. Making suggestions, considering alternatives, comparing specs, gathering photos and data, bidding, re-bidding and coordinating logistics, so it all comes together as planned.

Unlike other new lab programs that direct clients toward manufacturers who rely on pre-packaged solutions with promotional pricing, API Scientific focuses on helping you identify the very best equipment available to do the scientific testing you need, within the space you have available, at a price that fits comfortably within your budget.

This Best-In-Class approach enables you to customize any laboratory to optimize your testing...while minimizing the amount of research, planning and negotiating it could otherwise take by doing it in-house, on your own. Your own investment of time can be spent more efficiently, evaluating alternatives and giving final approvals.

The API Scientific Build-A-Lab Program can help get your new lab up and running more smoothly because we do all the legwork. And like all of our value-added services it's FREE.

The Art & Science

of Building A Laboratory

An API Scientific Case History.

One of our favorite and fastest growing services has been
Build-A-Lab. So when one of our long-standing soft drink clients approached us about helping them build a brand new micro lab, we knew just how to approach and add value to the assignment.

After explaining the specific kind of testing her company intended to do, the microbiologist gave us a wish list with the kinds of equipment and instrumentation she envisioned working with on a daily basis. In return, we started gathering specs and
photographs, brochures and even personal recommendations.  After all, we do have close relationships with hundreds of knowledgeable scientists, technicians and manufacturers who have current real-world experience with this kind of equipment in the lab.

Working within an overall budget for the entire project, API
shared the plusses and minuses of various models and manufacturers for each and every component, evaluating quality, capabilities, ease of use, ergonomics and cost. Some choices were harder than others, but we generally recommended putting their financial emphasis on the items most critical to the scientific functions they needed to perform.  It was a true scietific balancing act.

Then there was the furniture. Everything from the stainless steel work surfaces and custom cabinetry to hold all that nice new equipment, to comfortable bench height seating, special lighting and programmable refrigeration. And it was all designed with work flow in mind to fit into a 20’ x 25’ room like a glove. The easiest part was media, filtration, glass & plastics, disposables, etc., all the high-quality everyday ingredients that help make a good lab a better lab.

Not surprisingly, by the time they finished the selection
process, in our combined never ending quest for quality it appeared they had gone ever-so-slightly over the budget. So that’s when we started negotiating in earnest with each of the preferred manufacturers, discussing deeper discounts, warrantees, crating, shipping, and just about every other way we could realize some savings for our client... without sacrificing quality.

Last but far from least were the logistics. Some specialized equipment had to be built, customized cabinetry had to be fabricated, and other items had to be shipped halfway around the world. But we didn’t want to ship the order piecemeal, one or two items at a time. With lead times ranging from two days to two months, we coordinated the delivery of everything all  at once, in one major shipment…just about the same amount of time it took our customer to prep the room for their build.

Rather than giving them a pre-packaged build-it-yourself lab
package, we were able to help them create a state-of-the-art lab with best-in-class equipment from top-to-bottom, faster than they ever thought possible. How did it all turn out…?

We exceeded expectations…but not the budget. This client remains one of our best customers today!
